- EVO ICL FAQ's -
What is EVO ICL?
EVO ICL, or Implantable Collamer Lens, is an innovative surgical vision correction procedure designed to help individuals achieve clear vision without relying on glasses or contacts. Unlike LASIK, which reshapes the cornea, EVO ICL involves implanting a lens inside the eye, making it an excellent option for those with higher degrees of nearsightedness (myopia) or corneal thickness issues that prevent them from being LASIK candidates. This procedure is reversible and can enhance your quality of life by reducing dependence on glasses and contacts.
How does the EVO ICL procedure work?
The EVO ICL procedure is minimally invasive and typically takes less than 30 minutes. A thin, biocompatible lens is inserted through a small incision, usually at the edge of the cornea, and placed behind the iris (the colored part of your eye). The lens works in conjunction with your eye’s natural lens to focus light more effectively on the retina, leading to clearer vision. This procedure can correct a range of nearsightedness levels and is particularly beneficial for those with dry eyes or other issues that may complicate LASIK.
Who is a good candidate for EVO ICL?
EVO ICL is ideal for adults aged 21 to 45 who are diagnosed with nearsightedness. A comprehensive eye examination will assess factors such as corneal thickness, overall eye health, and refractive error to determine if EVO ICL is the right fit for you. This procedure is particularly for individuals with high prescriptions or those whose vision has stabilized.
Is the EVO ICL procedure painful?
Most patients experience little to no pain during the EVO ICL procedure. Anesthetic eye drops are applied to numb the area, and patients may feel a sensation of pressure during lens placement, but it is generally not painful. After the procedure, many individuals notice a significant improvement in their vision almost immediately, leading to a quick return to daily activities and routines.
What is the recovery time for EVO ICL?
Recovery time following the EVO ICL procedure is typically very short. Most patients can return to normal activities within 24 to 48 hours. Initial visual recovery can happen rapidly, with many reporting improved vision almost right away. Your eye surgeon will provide tailored aftercare instructions, including recommendations for post-operative eye drops and follow-up appointments to monitor your recovery progress.
How long does the EVO ICL lens last?
The EVO ICL lens is designed to be a long-term solution for vision correction, offering a permanent fix to nearsightedness. However, the lens can be removed or replaced if necessary, allowing for future adjustments if your vision changes over time. This flexibility is one of the many advantages of choosing EVO ICL for vision correction.
Will I still need glasses or contacts after the procedure?
While many patients achieve 20/20 vision or better after the EVO ICL procedure, individual results can vary. Some people may still require glasses for specific activities, such as reading or driving at night, especially as they age. However, most patients experience a significant reduction in their reliance on corrective eyewear, leading to a more active and fulfilling lifestyle.
