HOW LASIK WORKS: VISION CORRECTION IN 3 EASY STEPS

All-Laser LASIK is a fast and easy procedure that is performed in 3 simple steps:

STEP ONE – Utilizing the latest laser technology, our surgeon will create a corneal bandage or flap on the surface of the eye.

STEP TWO – After the flap is created our team will use another laser to gently reshape the surface of the eye (cornea) to bring the world into focus.

STEP THREE – Now that your vision has been corrected the flap is returned to its place and you now have the FREEDOM of life without lenses!

- LASIK FAQ's -

Does laser vision correction hurt?

Patients commonly experience minimal discomfort throughout the procedure. To alleviate pre-surgery anxiety, we often administer a mild oral sedative. Prior to surgery, anesthetic eye drops are applied to numb the eyes. While a slight pressure sensation from the laser or lid holder is normal, most patients find it tolerable. Following the procedure, we recommend patients go home and rest, often taking a nap to aid in recovery. For any lingering discomfort after resting, over-the-counter pain relievers like Advil or Tylenol are typically effective.

How long is the recovery?

While recovery timelines may differ for each individual, many experience improved vision as soon as the day after LASIK. It’s important to avoid strenuous activities, swimming, and exposure to windy or dirty environments for at least a week to protect the eyes from potential irritation or complications during the healing process.

What are the risks of laser vision correction?

At BoozmanHof, we prioritize patient safety and minimize risks associated with laser eye surgery through meticulous pre-operative assessments and detailed surgical planning. While complications after laser vision correction are rare, it’s important to acknowledge potential risks, including the need for glasses or contacts, dry eye, halos or glare, sensation of foreign objects in the eyes, and in very rare cases, vision loss. It’s worth noting that statistically, individuals are five times more likely to experience serious sight-threatening issues from contact lens wear than from laser eye surgery.

Will my laser treatment last forever?

LASIK offers a lasting solution to vision correction by reshaping the eye’s surface. For individuals with stable prescriptions, the benefits of laser vision correction can endure for many years. While the effects of laser surgery do not diminish over time, it’s important to recognize that the natural aging process can impact vision. As individuals age, they may develop presbyopia (the need for reading glasses around mid-40s) and later, cataracts (cloudiness of the lens around mid-60s). Fortunately, there are additional technologies available to address these vision changes as they arise.

Will laser vision correction work for me?

The first step in determining if laser vision correction (LVC) is suitable for you is to schedule a complimentary analysis and consultation. During this appointment, we conduct diagnostic scans of your eyes to tailor the best recommendation for your vision treatment. While online questionnaires can provide initial insights, the definitive assessment relies on reviewing the actual scans of your eyes.
